Research Studies

At Elmwood Pediatrics, we are committed to advancing children’s health through research. We participate in various studies throughout the year, focusing on improving care and treatments for our young patients.

ASPIRE Study

We’re proud to participate in the ASPIRE study (Adolescent Substance Use Prevention Intervention Research), led by Dr. Sion Harris and Dr. Lydia Shrier from Boston Children’s Hospital. This study investigates whether screening and brief interventions can reduce heavy drinking and related safety risks among adolescents.

Why are we doing this study?

  • To find out how doctors can best talk to 14 to 17-year-olds about alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs

Who can join?

  • If you are between the ages of 14 and 17 at the time of your next checkup and you meet a few other eligibility criteria, you may be able to join!
  • You do NOT need to have used or been near any substances to join
  • We welcome people of any race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, and disability status

What should I know about it?

  • Our doctor’s office is one of up to 20 offices across the country in ASPIRE!
  • Joining ASPIRE is completely up to you
  • Although your parents/guardians do not need to give permission for you to join, we encourage you to talk with them before making your decision
  • You can get paid up to $175 in electronic gift cards for completing surveys. The more surveys you do, the more money you will get!

If you’re interested in participating in the ASPIRE study or want more information about how you or your child can be involved, fill out this survey.
